Heather Davidson-Meyn's paper on the Energy Drill Schools Program at AESP's 18th National Energy Services Conference & Expo

by: Victoria Farmer

In January, Heather Davidson-Meyn presented a unique behavioural demand response program for schools at the 18th National Energy Services Conference and Expo (NESC) Clearwater Beach, Florida.

Heather's presentation and paper (below) covers successes and lessons learned in reaching out to, and actively engaging, students, teachers, principals, caretakers, schools boards and utilities in a common goal of reducing energy demand. The program pilot was completed in November 2007 after completing a full school-year (2006-2007) of activities in schools in and around Toronto, Canada. One of the components of the project was the construction of the What is the energy drill? website. The website also features the Energy Drill movie.

Heather Davidson-Meyn is a Senior Consultant with IndEco Strategic Consulting in Toronto, Canada. Heather is a Professional Engineer with extensive experience in energy and environmental issues, with a focus on energy conservation, demand response and renewable energy technologies. With an educational background in Biological Engineering, Heather has applied her expertise beyond the energy sector with applications in the biomechanics and food industries as well as international development.

Aside from managing the development and implementation of the Energy Drill demand response pilot program in 8 Toronto area schools, Heather's most recent work has been assisting various utilities in formulating detailed conservation and demand management program plans, and analyzing total resource costs of various renewable energy and conservation retrofit technologies.
