Energy plans required for public agencies starting in 2013
Thursday, 02 February 2012
A new regulation under Ontario's Green Energy Act, 2009 came into effect January 1, 2012. This regulation requires public agencies to develop energy conservation and demand management plans beginning in 2013.
Who does this impact?
This regulation applies to all public agencies in Ontario: municipalities, municipal service boards, post-secondary educational institutions, public hospitals, and school boards.
Under Regulation 397/11, all public agencies will be required to report annually on energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions beginning July 1, 2013. The agencies will also need to develop five-year energy conservation plans starting July 1, 2014.
