Deborah Lightman is an environmental planner with strong quantitative and qualitative skills. She has extensive experience analyzing connections between environmental, social and economic issues and enjoys the challenge of designing strategies that achieve gains in all areas. Deborah is excited to bring her knowledge of stakeholder outreach, community engagement and social marketing techniques to the IndEco team. She also possesses expertise in a wide range of fields including: sustainability planning, community and economic development, climate change adaptation, water and energy conservation, land use planning, and First Nations governance.
She joins IndEco after completing a Master in City Planning degree and Environmental Policy certificate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over the course of her Master’s degree, she organized focus groups, facilitated meetings, and interviewed stakeholders for clients including the City of Portland, the National Audubon Society, and IBM.
She is currently working with the IndEco team on the development of an energy management plan for the City of Barrie.
Prior to attending MIT, Deborah obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environment and Health from McGill University and worked as a researcher for the Water Policy and Governance Group at the University of Waterloo.
